FAQ

Free YouTube music: questions

Is this music really free for YouTube videos?

Yes. Every track here is a Purrple Cat Self Release under CC BY 4.0. You can use it in YouTube videos, Shorts and livestreams, monetized or not, as long as you credit "Music by Purrple Cat" with a link.

Is YouTube Music free?

The YouTube Music app has a free, ad-supported tier; offline downloads and background play need Premium. This site is something else: free music you can put in your own videos. Please don't upload these tracks to YouTube Music, Spotify or other streaming services.

Will I get a Content ID claim?

The music is free to use with credit on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Facebook, X and other social platforms. Claims usually happen when someone re-uploads the music (or a remix, sample or cover) to a streaming service like Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music, which is not allowed and causes false Content ID claims. If you ever get one on a video that credits Purrple Cat, dispute it and point to the CC BY 4.0 licence.

What do I put in my description?

Use the Export panel: pick your video length and it writes the credit plus chapter timestamps for every track. Or copy the short line from the Credit page.

Can I download the tracks?

Yes, every track has an MP3 download. No sign-up, no email.

Is any of this made with AI?

No. No AI is used in Purrple Cat music or art.

Are there vocals?

Almost everything is instrumental. The Memories EP and Please Hold Me have vocals; the Study and Tutorial bins leave them out so nothing talks over your voice.

Who is Purrple Cat?

A lofi artist making music since December 2018 (the first album, Up All Night, came out Dec 7, 2018): 500+ songs, 500M+ streams and 425K followers. No face reveal, just the cat.
